Section 5: OPA Board Subject: Disgraceful Vote on Lakernick Msg# 1153274

Joe,
I did ask Dr. Horn why she abstained. She chose to abstain to continue to develop a more cohesive board that understands the importance of teamwork. Working well with other members of the Board is essential to getting things done. She has every right not to provide the reasoning behind her vote or lack there of. Can you imagine if she did provide her reasoning at the board meeting? More sharks would be in the water smelling blood. Her job is to work with other board members to do the work of the community.

For reference, the above message is a reply to a message where: I want to comment on Amy Peck’s decision to abstain. I have no idea why she abstained. However, she had to bring Mr. Lackernit’s application to the board. That does not mean she thought he was best suited for the Strategic Planning Committee. However, if he would be voted on to the committee she would have to work with him. Abstaining is the best way to remain neutral, rather than being confronted with his unprofessional behavior at every meeting. I find nothing in OPA's governing documents saying a board committee liaison MUST bring committee applications to the Board of Directors. Nor is there any governing document that requires the liaison to sign an application form recommending the applicant. Peck signed the form recommending Lakernick. There were TWO applications Peck brought to the board for appointments to the Strategic Planning Committee. Peck makes the claim that she did not vote on the Lakernick application because she is the board liaison and wanted to remain neutral. That position, in and of itself, is ridiculous (given her own actions), but the hypocrisy of her explanation is exposed for the world to see because she ignored her supposed need to be neutral and voted for the appointment of Frank Brown to the committee. Any reasonable person can see the hypocrisy. Regardless, while I strongly disagree with Peck's position on the vote, and find it disgraceful, I believe she is a qualified board member and has the best interests of the association at heart. Again, that does not mean one must agree with her on every POLITICAL position she takes. As my good friend Marty Clarke likes to joke -- "If all board members agreed on everything, only one of them would need to attend meetings." I will repeat -- the vote on Lakernick was disgraceful. |
