Section 5: OPA Board Subject: Disgraceful Vote on Lakernick Msg# 1153889

Thanks for the response. I know of no board member I would describe as malevolent. That is extreme.
Now we have Horn still not issuing a correction to her quoted misinformation in an OPA press release. OPA politics evolved into a combat sport decades ago - for better or worse. |

For reference, the above message is a reply to a message where: Joe, What surprises me is the attribution of mean or negative reasons for people's actions/words. I was on many boards, and I can tell you I was led by "Do no harm", and the stated goals of the organization. Sometimes I lost votes. That is why we vote. I didn’t take it personally. It is beyond my understanding why people volunteer for these positions and then set out to be malevolent. I don’t believe that is the goal of the individuals who sign up for volunteer position. I do believe they sign up for a volunteer position to advance their particular agenda or their belief system that something should change in the organization, or they were strongly encouraged by a friend, organization paid staff or belief system of others. I don’t believe that I utilize name calling to disagree with an individual or a group of individuals. I do however name behaviors. If the shoe fits then it does. On the other hand, perhaps my comment on the behavior is not accurate. If you believe I descended into name calling, I will be more careful in future comments. I can’t change the past. I again did not comment on your name calling. I commented on name calling in general. It seems to me a lot of value judgements are made then applied to an individual especially on the internet where the individual is not face to face with the person they disagree on an issue. Of course, we have all seen people who believe so passionately in their beliefs that they do descend into verbal or physical poor behavior. I believe that kind of behavior happens because an individual is at a loss for civil discourse. That behavior can be altered especially if the individual recognizes it. Just as I am willing to alter my behavior if in fact I accused you or any other person of name calling. |
