Section 5: OPA Board Subject: Disgraceful Vote on Lakernick Msg# 1153899

Joe, how many people do you know who have responded to a reporter’s questions and been misquoted or had their quote twisted into something they did not mean or horrors of horrors said something that was completely out of line with their intent. I could go on and on how interactions with the press and especially the slanted publication that chooses to inform the world, state or homeowners association.
Pam, OPA has confirmed what Horn said in an OPA press release. Her quote about casting a vote against Lakernick was not originally in some newspaper. It was in an OPA in-house news release. I understand she now admits a mistake in saying she voted against Lakernick, but have not yet seen a public acknowledgment of that from OPA. Then she gives a slightly different slant to a reporter in the Dispatch. She was notified of her misinformation in the news release. She chose not to have a correction issued. Thus local papers published her misinformation. A correction has yet to be issued. Very disappointing to see how she handled this as OPA president. The facts are on video. She said she abstained, and then she told you the same and gave some nonsensical reason about board unity. On video, she said the vote was two favoring Lakernick and three against. In the OPA news release, she said she personally voted against Lakernick and that Amy Peck voted for Lakernick - calling it a 3-4 vote against Lakernick. Peck has posted multiple messages that she abstained. The video verifies Peck did not vote and that Horn did not vote. I am not sure what point you are now trying to make. By the way, what is this "slanted publication" you mention? That was definitely not okay as if my husband controlled what I comment on. I informed my husband I don’t take messages through him and the next time the board member wanted to send a message he can call or email me. I do have limits and boundaries. Sorry, but I don't know what all that is about or if you are referencing your interactions with Horn. |

For reference, the above message is a reply to a message where: I am sorry you felt the malevolent description was extreme. However, if you listen to the “voices” that word comes to mind. I have learned through experience that telling a reporter that I will get back to them on an issue I am not prepared to comment on saves a lot of headaches I understand that it is your role on the Forum is to provide observations and commentary on the inner workings of the community of Ocean Pines. In general, I usually agree with you. I also appreciate when you provide me with background on the community and its inhabitants before I became interested and/or involved in the community. As I observed your commentary, I envisioned your purpose is to stimulate conversation in the community. You have certainly stimulated me to become more involved in the community if only through comments on your forum. Just because ugly discourse, characterizations and misappropriations of individual actions have developed over time, does not mean that I have to act or react that way. As far as Colette goes; if I felt strongly enough about an issue, I would email her just like I would any other board member. When I first got interested in the community, I unfortunately did not email a board member directly. I did try to use the third person thus describing an action or behavior. However, that was not one of my finer decisions. As life does, it taught me a lesson. Unfortunately, the board member sent me a message through my husband. That was definitely not okay as if my husband controlled what I comment on. I informed my husband I don’t take messages through him and the next time the board member wanted to send a message he can call or email me. I do have limits and boundaries. |
