Well, again, the “founder” of the ROC seemed to be profusely defensive of and supportive of the OPA Board— not surprised they appointed their biggest cheerleader to a committee. Members of the ROC got tossed if they pushed back/asked questions of the ROC or OP Board. For a site that insists it will hold the board “accountable” it did not appreciate being held accountable itself. I did recommend if their intent was oversight, they should suggest an actual committee with structure, rules, and accountability— as any real oversight committee would— and apply to that committee once created. My initial confusion was due to calling itself what I believe at the time to be resident oversight committee. It’s “about“ info at the time intimated it could get the answers residents of OPA sought about anything and would perform oversight to a degree that would only seem afforded with special access. it also claimed it would hold the aboard accountable. From what I understand Peck has been an admin. In addition, Peck posted frequently and predominantly to the ROC. She and Clifford would congratulate each other on board accomplishments, page achievements, etc. I would look at various other pages and not see the OP information Peck posted to the ROC page. It came across as though Peck was the social media mouthpiece for the board, and the ROC was the preferred avenue for providing the info. In a community with many older citizens, who may not be able to read between the lines, it may not dawn on them that this is not an official page. in addition, there are mugs, business cards, and what appears to be an office location within what many believe will be her real estate location once she gets her Maryland license. Many asked for clarification on the ROC page about this, and was one of my first areas of concern with that page. Was this whole venture to add some added benefit to working with her in a real estate capacity? Was she attempting to monetize her apparent connection and influence over the board, and why would the board not look into this? Apparently, her unwavering support has already been rewarded with a position on a committee.
I have a lot more in the ways of emails here, but am concerned myself with the targeted attacks towards residents in the name of “fact sharing.” Which I guess at the end of the day is a real fear of mine. What extent can this board go to without accountability for their actions? It appears if you support them, you get rewarded with appointments to the board or committees. If you don’t, watch your back—as board members will take “facts” about your life and send unsolicited emails or messages to other community members about you. The board members are supposed to represent the best interests of our community, not their own. From: Frank Daly <fdaly@oceanpines.org> Janeen, Thank you for sharing your thoughts. |

For reference, the above message is a reply to a message where: I am new to the area. I thought the resident oversight community was official, so I joined that one first. I was looking for ways to get involved in the community. I started to realize how misleading the group was and started asking questions. Honestly, it seemed like a fraud against the people of ocean Pines. The person who previously referred to herself as president and ceo of that page has now revised it to say “founder”—but that was after I was tossed from the page for asking questions. That individual was just appointed to the Search Committee today, and approved by the board. Stuart Lakernick applied to serve on the same committee and was not appointed. Let me ask -- why would anyone think the so-called resident oversight committee was "official?" There is no official OPA site other than oceanpines.org. Period. |
