Section 5: OPA Board Subject: Election Vote Count Questioned Msg# 1171121

I wonder if the company who does the internet voting can generate a report to identify lot votes in the same manner as paper ones. Hard to believe that they wouldn't have some method of verifying voting when there is a discrepancy in totals. At this point we really don't know if totals were off with paper or internet. | ||||||

For reference, the above message is a reply to a message where: With paper there is something to check, to verify. We have absolutely no idea about what happened on the INTERNET. We must ASSUME all went properly. As for no impact of Internet voting, the entire paper ballot mailing was changed to comply with internet voting regarding multiple lots. Marlene Ott brought this up and, I am told, some on the Elections Committee called her a troublemaker. There have been counting issues since the Scantron machine and ballot cards was dumped three years ago. Memories are short. That first year with the new slow paper scanner system, the Elections Committee allowed the mailing contractor to scan the ballots without any committee supervision or association member viewing. As for Internet voting, I do not trust it. We have no control. If there was a close election, say a one vote difference, there is no way to verify or do a recount. In the Internet We Trust. Proper card ballots, mailed for each lot, returned by mail or police drop box, ballots returned in plain envelope inside the return envelope, ballots separated by contractor, and counted by contractor using a Scantron type card reader, all under the direct SUPERVISION of the Elections committee. Something very similar worked for a decade or more. OPA could not be satisfied with what worked. Anyway, that is how I see it. I am sure others just love INTERNET voting. While the board can decide, with something as important as an election or a referendum, association members should be asked via referendum if voting should be limited to paper ballots. |
