If we're the most powerful elective voice in the county how come we always seem to come up with the dirty end of the stick?
We are not. If elections were county-wide, we would be. However, elections are by District - 7 Districts with 7,000 or so voters in each district. Thus, commissioner candidates in a Pocomoke district couldn’t care less what any voter in OP thinks. When I moved here there were five commissioners, all elected by county-wide vote - all Democrats since the founding of the county. Then to meet minority opportunity, seven districts were created with one having a good chance of electing a minority. It stretches from Berlin to Pocomoke City. |
