These committees are advisory only. And they certainly have to right to speak directly to any employees or department heads. That is for the GM. And if a committee becomes loaded with people that wish or try otherwise it ceases to meet its reason for being. |

For reference, the above message is a reply to a message where: I think the people on this Committee are volunteering their time in the hopes that their time will result in positive change for the community. I also think they are frustrated by the administrations responses to their suggestions and actions. They aren’t allowed to talk directly to any OP department heads or employees. They are dependent upon their BOD liaison to relay their questions to the OP employees and then relay the answers back to them. In some instances this works. In others, it’s a very attenuated process and there are communication issues. (Ever play the game telephone? The message relayed is rarely accurate when it get to the other end). It’s like banging your head against the wall. Who wants to do that? Because it feels so good when you stop? If this keeps up, there will be no one who wants to volunteer their time to be on any of these “advisory” committees. I’m not sure what the answer to this problem is, but it’s not appropriate to blame the committee members for being frustrated and venting their frustration at their meeting. The system appears to be broken. |
