Bertino and Bunting are back where they began - alone against five. And yes - I would agree the school board budget debate hurt both men. They grabbed the third rail in an unsuccessful effort to control spending.
Of interest, Fiori was with them in that effort, then bailed when school board supporters threatened to boycott his businesses - a true Profile in Courage. As for the redistrict change moving Glen Riddle from Bunting to Fiori, I'm not sure whaat you are suggesting. |

For reference, the above message is a reply to a message where: As for "tea and crumpets," anyone paying attention to Worcester politics knows that will not happen under any circumstances, especially as long as Joe Mitrecic of Ocean City is a commissioner. Yes, Mitrecic is most often on the opposite side from Bertino and Bunting on major issues, but there are a number of dynamics at play here. This time a year ago Bertino was president of the commissioners and enjoyed an often times 5-2 majority. Fast forward to today and it has seemingly flipped completely. The bodies in the seats are all the same, so what changed? Elder's surprising election as president last fall has come up here before, but a possible fracture in the majority seemed to show itself as far back as the conclusion of the Board of Education budget discussions last spring. Also noteworthy, the county district lines were redrawn in the fall of 2023, moving Glen Riddle from Bunting's district into Fiori's. Have to think that changed the complexion of this debate quite a bit. |
