As Bill would say, "I feel your pain." We all feel the pain. However, let's look at what is best in the long run for OP; that is the important issue. Is it best to build a needed Community Center for $5.4 million, or take Marty's approach and stop the project and probably cost OPA one to two million dollars in the process -- and we get no building. We all know some future referendum, if it would ever come, will cost more for less. Sounds to me like a classic case of biting off one's nose to spite one's face. If Marty is successful will some board members look bad? Sure. Will Ocean Pines be better off? I don't think so. |

For reference, the above message is a reply to a message where: Joe, We are where we are on the Community Center. If it is stopped now it’s not Marty’s fault. The time to have stopped this is when the $3.9MM lowball turnkey turned into $6MM. Instead Dan went to Joe Moore and Joe gave him the wiggle room to keep going and ignore the wording of the referendum. When Dan announced the unexpected cost increase, Heather said she would not go for another referendum or words to that effect and the majority of the board agreed. Based on the fact that Joe Moore had given the BOD room, Dan went to work to change the building into a butler type building and fit it into the $3.9MM construction cost only vs. turnkey definition. People at fault: Joe Moore who should be replaced and the majority board at the time. Then on top of the financial hole they knew they were building they pushed through the pool cover just sneaking in under the referendum trigger. How arrogant and disingenuous can one group of people be to put us in this position? I no more trust the current cost estimate of the Community Center, the Pool Cover, revenue estimate from the sales of the property or the $500 per lot owner cost to cancel the project. Fault? Dan, majority BOD and Joe Moore. Sorry but they dug the hole and they keep on digging. George |
