Section 5: OPA Board Subject: Community Center Contract Msg# 390176

I certainly wouldn't want to be here without the post office and library. I probably am at both of them 3 times a week if not more. I know it's really hard the whole cc situation. I've tried to be realistic about it, but the underhanded way the politics have gotten into it disturbs me. I concede that it will probably cost more in the end, and I can handle that, just not soooo much. I also don't want to see it losing all of the things proposed. It's hard as a "consumer" or "member" of the community to figure out what is best. That's why I voted yes to begin with. I just know that if assessments go up and up and up, it's really going to put a crunch on our family. We hoped to retire here and some spending money. That may have been a "dream". Although, I think that we were hoping Worcester County would stay rural and scenic and rustic and all those asthetic amenities we love. Maybe my age is catching me and I'm becoming my parents. I don't want enclosed pools or skateboard parks; let's just fish and walk and enjoy nature. Not very realistic I know. Anyway, I have mixed emotions about the cc and am clearly trying to find the right path on this one. The only other thing I will say, is I'm very naive about community politics and I'm also way to vulnerable sometimes. I am still glad we chose OP amongst the choices we had. I'm sure the cc will work itself out given time. |

For reference, the above message is a reply to a message where: I still would like a cc, I just don't know how to get it done with a lesser $ figure. That's why I think it should go back for another shot. Well, if the Community Center is stopped now the likelihood of there ever being a new one, at least for five to 10 years, is slim and none. Then, if and when, it will cost more. I'm looking past the botched process post-referendum and looking at the benefit a new CC will bring. It isn't going to become less expensive. However, I see and understand the arguments on both sides of this devisive issue. I also remember the opposition to the library and post office, and would anyone now want to think of OP without those buildings? |
