For reference, the above message is a reply to a message where: To say we won't or can't vote on the new CC until we know what is to become of the old community hall is pure folly. You can vote on the new CC using any kind of rationale you want. If you thinks it's just a matter of 1.4 million, fine. To me, it's also how we will pay for it (no other source was authorized but money from land sales), and it won't look like the facility that was promised. I, for one, am totally against the vast majority of the remaining land being used for a sediment pond. If you like that, fine. For me, though, after all that has gone on (and not gone on), I would like to know what the old CH will cost to "fix" and for what purpose it will be fixed. If the old CH is "fixed" and it includes several meeting rooms, why do we need such a large new CC? Do we really need or even want a gym in the same building as our social center? Could we build a metal gym/basketball place near the existing CH for less than including it in the new CC? Remember the M-16? The Ontos? The Howtar? The Mighty Mite? Have have rationalized the new CC down to meet the maximum we feel we can get by to spend? For $5.4 million, I would like a building we can all be proud of. And when considering space needs, a question: why does the BoD never schedule its regular meetings in our nice new library in that nice large room to the right as you enter? We should have had a master plan before we designed and priced out the new CC. What we did, in my opinion, is develop a building that the members might approve, not the optimum building for our needs. What we did in our haphazard manner was pure folly. I'd like to see the CC and indoor pool cover stopped and we start all over with the effort being under the supervision of a group of members. My trust in the process for both these projects is shot - gone - zero. One more time: 5.4 (CC) + 1.0 (PE) + 1.5 (old CH) = 7.9 I would think we (anyone) could do better than what we can see is going to be done now. Maybe Tom Cetola can answer this: is there any chance that the County could build a recreation facility somewhere near OP with a gym and indoor pool? If not, why not. I'm not suggesting now, just long range. It's time to recognize the mistakes we have made and start over. Canceling contracts may be embarrassing for the BoD and the GM. Making major mistakes that are irreversible is worse. We need not rush just to make a few folks happy. |
