I concur that an equal spread (with a premium on the waterfronts due to higher maintenance) is best for our community. My wife and I have an interior home (our get away second home) and we drive on roads, use the parks, etc. the same as a couple with a waterfront home. Equal access to common ammenities should be offset with an equal responsibility to pay which hopefully causes an equal responsibility to take care of it (our community). It might be possible that I could learn something that would support the municipality route but I seriously doubt it. The "no vote" issue is a deal breaker for me as well as the endless layers of government and the accompanying cost. I'd be shocked if our cumulative cost of home ownership would decrease. Even if it did decrease somewhat I don't think that the give up of control is worth it. We are in a very fortunate position. We have a population that is rich with individuals that have experience in management / decision making / etc. that are willing to share that expertise for the benefit of the community. Many of them have schedules that permit enough flexibility to devote time to the community and once again we all benefit. Looks to me that we potentially have a very strong BOD and I'm looking forward to their guidance and willingness to have an open ear. My thanks to all of them. | ||||||

For reference, the above message is a reply to a message where: What about basing the taxes on the value of the lot? In a HOA I prefer that our assessments [basically local taxes] be spread among the lot owners equally. It is a fairer system than using a valuation method and more reflects actual usage of services. Of course there are waterfront differentials etc. Remember we do pay our County taxes based on valuation most of which is the lot. |
