One of the issues I brought up here in regard to cost savings was related to road patching and the Board policy at one time that no new road cuts could be done after a road was resurfaced. The County Public Works Department is cutting the roads for new water service installations, saying it is not practical or efficient to tunnel under the road for these connections. However, a private company, the outfit that is installing propane gas connections, is apparently tunneling under the road to make new connections, at least that was the case on my road where the County dug a trench across the road for water service while a new gas connection was tunneled under the road. Since the connecting lines for water or gas are of similar diameter, one has to wonder why the private contractor can avoid cutting the roads while Public Works says it cannot. |

For reference, the above message is a reply to a message where: Joe, Dave Furguson and our advisory group have been working on the cut repair or lack thereof. This was being done by contract, I believe it will be done in house pretty soon.Dick |
