First off, I don't speak for the Board here, but only as an interested individual . . . Joe Reynolds is suggesting that we need to hold the County accountable for it's admitted responsibility, perhaps more aggressively than we have in the past . . . The County has consistently dragged its feet relative to this issue, forcing the OPA to pick up the slack, apparently at OPA expense . . . Joe Schanno is suggesting we quit depending upon the County and just do it ourselves . . . All valid and reasonable suggestions . . . Knowing what I know of the Pines, and the extent to which we interact with the County on a wide variety of issues, I would suggest that the wisest course of action would be to continue to press the County to meet its responsibility, but in an amicable, cooperative, and patient fashion . . . this is not an important enough issue, in my opinion, to get as aggressive as Joe R. appears to be suggesting . . . nor is it such a lost cause that we need to take it one ourselves completely, as Joe S. is suggesting . . . My understanding is that the contractor working with the County will be back on our roads by early June . . . let's keep a close eye and see how it goes . . . |

For reference, the above message is a reply to a message where: I do not believe the OPA is adequately equipped to do final, hot-patch paving over cuts. Or are you suggesting OPA get into the asphalt paving business? There is no passing of the buck. The County acknowledges the patching is it's responsibility. They even have let an official County contract to some company. However, the company has failed to perform. If Ocean Pines took over the responsibility, then OPA would have to similarly contract out the patching (we aren't talking about temporary cold patches that anyone can do). What you are proposing would have OPA take over responsibility for what EVERYONE involved acknowledges is a real headache. It would be a frying pan to fire scenario. |
