Section 5: OPA Board Subject: Rate the Board Msg# 116302

My understanding is that the contractor working with the County will be back on our roads by early June At the Water and Sewage Advisory Committee meeting on Tuesday, there were some comments made that it could be next year. Check with Dave, but the prospects of quick action by the County did not seem especially bright. Dave seems thoroughly disgusted with the lack of County response, as he should be, as our Board should be. However, one County manager did make a comment to the effect that, "now that this has become a political issue we'll see if we can get something going." I would agree with you on not being too aggressive if we were at a six-month, or even a one-year point. However, it appears Ocean Pines has been approaching this in an "amicable, cooperative, and patient fashion" but to no avail. Nor am I certain my suggestion of a formal presentation by the OPA Board at a full public meeting of the County Commissioners should be considered too aggressive after two years of inaction and broken promises on their part. We should continue to be amicable and cooperative, but the time for patience has passed in my view. It is time for the County to amicably and cooperatively take care of its responsibility in Ocean Pines. |

For reference, the above message is a reply to a message where: First off, I don't speak for the Board here, but only as an interested individual . . . Joe Reynolds is suggesting that we need to hold the County accountable for it's admitted responsibility, perhaps more aggressively than we have in the past . . . The County has consistently dragged its feet relative to this issue, forcing the OPA to pick up the slack, apparently at OPA expense . . . Joe Schanno is suggesting we quit depending upon the County and just do it ourselves . . . All valid and reasonable suggestions . . . Knowing what I know of the Pines, and the extent to which we interact with the County on a wide variety of issues, I would suggest that the wisest course of action would be to continue to press the County to meet its responsibility, but in an amicable, cooperative, and patient fashion . . . this is not an important enough issue, in my opinion, to get as aggressive as Joe R. appears to be suggesting . . . nor is it such a lost cause that we need to take it one ourselves completely, as Joe S. is suggesting . . . My understanding is that the contractor working with the County will be back on our roads by early June . . . let's keep a close eye and see how it goes . . . |
