Section 5: OPA Board Subject: WHP/New Fire House Msg# 572245

I am remembering a larger amout of space....close to two acres with firehouse, parking and pond. To my knowledge the plans for the fire department have never indicated an area for storm water management. The area the board has provided the fire department does not include storm water management area. It appears this will now require a storm management plan for the entire White Horse Park. We do not yet know what this will entail in terms of park area or how much it will cost. Olson is making every attempt possible to keep this entire issue as quiet as possible.

For reference, the above message is a reply to a message where: The last I heard, and don't hold me to this as I have not been invited to these related meetings, is the projected size of that new fire station would take "about an acre" from White Horse Park - and if I remember correctly, that is about 210' x 210' (approximately). The entrance will be on Ocean Parkway. This should help you "visualize" the project. I have no idea how many trees would have to come down with the full project but you are correct that a lot will be taken down. Thanks Reid. Does the acre include the requisite pond? I am remembering a larger amout of space....close to two acres with firehouse, parking and pond. I could be wrong. I have been over to the park to "visualize" the project. That is WHY I am so very upset. I lived in White Horse for four summers and I know it well. We rented the first house on Crow's Nest that backs up to the park one summer also, so I can remember how that looked from the other side of the park. The area where the firehouse will be is used a great deal in summer. Last Saturday there was a large picnic in the Pavillion area and folks fanned out all around it. We have all sorts of activites there and the recreation dept. uses the area during summer camp. I think people are just not aware of what is about to happen and when the realization comes.....the feathers are going to hit the fan.......BIG TIME. We don't need a huge community center....according to the Zogby report ...and we don't need to destroy our park to house a couple of firetrucks. THIS MAKES LITTLE SENSE. Thanks for taking the time to discuss this. Nancy |
