Section 5: OPA Board Subject: WHP/New Fire House Msg# 572479

I would think those people chose the lot because it backed up to the biggest park in the Pines. Just like the guy who posted last year during a discussion about turning the golf course into a park. He objected because he purchased his home on the golf course and did not purchase a home that backed up to a park. So here's the decision that needs to be made. Don't build the new OPVFD at WHP and keep the current no-timer owner of the gray house which is For Sale happy, or build a new OPVFD at WHP to benefit all of Ocean Pines and upset a few people. Not a difficult decision if I were the OPA. Assuming of course that (1) the new OPVFD is a need and not a want and (2) WHP is the only place in OPA this new building can be built. |

For reference, the above message is a reply to a message where: If I lived there, I would definitely be a NIMBY. I would think those people chose the lot because it backed up to the biggest park in the Pines. I don't understand, is the new building to be used in the same capacity as the old location currently is in WHP? Only to store vehicles? Or will this be another station that is staffed like the one in the South Gate? I also don't understand the desire to build (I may not understand this fully) a station in the North Gate to house the bigger trucks that I thought were purchased because of the taller homes in the South Gate . If the OPVFD can make us all safer, I say yeah! However, is it worth the cost of losing so much of the Park? It seems like the current board or whomever makes these decisions seem to be living by the creed of "Pave the Planet". They cut down trees for the covered pool, wanted to cover sports core for parking for the Community Hall, cut down a tree for our new expressway entrance into the South gate and now they want to cut down a whole lot of trees for the OPVFD....are we forgetting the name of our community? If they take it away slowly, maybe no one will notice. Or as I expect Rick Wilson to post: They paved paradise and put up a parkin' lot. |
