Before you impugn the integrity and intelligence of everyone on the board, you might do some homework on your own about the backgrounds of some of us, especially with regard to overseeing millions -- or billions -- of dollars I am not impugning the integrity or intelligence of anyone on the board or OPA staff. You and every other current board member may be the best financial wizards in the world. But you and the other board members do NOT do the day-to-day control of capital expenditures. Board members change all the time. Mr. Joe Pastore left before serving one full term if my memory serves me right. All of the current financially talented board members here today may be gone tomorrow. Yet once those major projects start, OPA staff still needs to appropriately evaluate and control those expenditures despite the financial talents, or lack thereof, of the board members. All I am asking is does OPA, Inc. have appropriate capital management procedures and policies in place to adequately evaluate proposals and control expenditures on projects that may span several years? If you have been reading my other posts I have discussed numerous observations which cause me to raise the questions I have raised. Thank you for participating in this forum. |

For reference, the above message is a reply to a message where: Dear aniceplacetolive, Re: Your comment "When I hear that OPA, Inc. has not had to confront the problem of major expenditures for infrastructure replacements in 35 years, I question if they know how to manage major capital expenditures." Before you impugn the integrity and intelligence of everyone on the board, you might do some homework on your own about the backgrounds of some of us, especially with regard to overseeing millions -- or billions -- of dollars. Solipsistic assertions such as yours do not add to the debate on financing in Ocean Pines. I'd be happy to discuss financial issues with you in person, over the phone, or at the Town Meeting on Wednesday evening. I trust you'll have done your homework, too. -- Mark Venit |
