Tom: My number is based on a 20% profit ratio which should be very conservative for beer sales. My scenario is nothing more than an obviously simple fix, nothing more or less. Is it anymore "unrealistic" or "problematical" then asking our staff to make everyone happy in a neighborhood where some want hot dogs and fish sticks while others want steak and lobster? "It seems this example is just another way to say that any number of a large loss ($140,000) becomes a much smaller number if spread over a large number of residents" Duh! Your "slick politicians", Marty Clarke |

For reference, the above message is a reply to a message where: Are your numbers assuming that the $3.95 beer translates to total profit?? If its only 50% profit, then your example recovers only half of the YC's losses. Perhaps you know the percent of costs to revenues. It seems that someone, a while back, mentioned the YC costs were about 2/3rds of revenues. Such ratio that would send only 1/3 to the bottom line, in net profit/loss improvement. And if half of the population ( or some large portion) didn't cooperate, then your example is again unrealistic. A substantial portion don't even bother to vote their OPA ballots, so this tells something about public participation And if some portion of those patrons were dissatisfied with something, then repeat patronage become problematical. It seems this example is just another way to say that any number of a large loss ($140,000) becomes a much smaller number if spread over a large number of residents. That seems to me to be in the category of slick politicians explaining away or justifiying their lack of action, or lack of performance. A number of criticisms here of the YC seem to be sincere pleas for improvement in the operation, and that would seem to be the eventual solution. And these people commenting seem to be hoping their pleas won't fall on deaf ears, or be brushed off with slick justifications. Tom
