My point is if we can find an operator for the golf course that will take on ALL the expenses of maintaining the course thereby eliminating the annual losses to the association we come out a winner even if we lease it for $1.00 a year. Ocean Pines would still have a course, existing members would still have a place to play and people selling their homes can still say we are a "golf community".
As far as the yacht club is concerned I tend to agree with the GM, the existing building needs replacement. My difference of opinion is the size of the new building, I think we should look at a one story, no banquet facility unless management can show, based on the past 5 years banquet profits that the payback for the added expense of a second floor will be recovered in ten years or less. I also think we should stick to a seasonal schedule for the yacht club, maybe mid April until mid October. I'm sure there are more than a few property owners that would be in favor of a big Tiki bar with just a hot dog cart and a taco wagon, that way you know it will make money. |

For reference, the above message is a reply to a message where: With all due respect guys...The questions we, as an association, need to ask are: 1. Do we really need a golf course? and 2. What do we need for a yoacht club? Determine the needs of the community, those that benfit the majority of members, then discuss the means to those ends. |
