I have been on a fixed income for over 23 years
What is your point? Saying one is on fixed income is meaningless without knowing the amount of the fixed income. Is it $4,000 a year or $4 million a year? |

For reference, the above message is a reply to a message where: I'm voting yes on the Yacht Club, as I want Ocean Pines to maintain the standard of living I first saw when I joined the association 29 years ago. I have been on a fixed income for over 23 years and for many years felt that OP did not keep up with normal inflation in their assessments always attemting to keep increases to a bare minimum and letting things deteriorate, like the Yacht Club. I've seen the Beach Club give up its beautiful :"Goose Hangs High" facility, seen the Country Club hardly ever used, the Racquet Pool kitchen closed, as so on. I don't want to live in a shabby community, nor one divested of its amenities. OP was created by Boise Cascade to be a community augmented with nice amenities, amenities that were planned to be subsidized to a small degree by its assessments. Unfortunately, the subsidization has been excessive and people are getting very negative about these amenities. If they are upset they won't support them. All along I have seen this brought about because of the lack of sound management in most of the amenities operations. Consequently, without effective management, one that would recognize that these facilities are operating in a very competitive environment, they have become facilities that attempt to be profit centers, looking not how to satisfy the needs of OP residents, but rather to induce outsiders to come in and support them. Just look at the dependence on catering at the Yacht Club and packages at the Golf Course. The question really is, "Why is DeNovo's, Whiskers or Taylors so sucessful, and we can't break even"? Yes I'm going to vote yes, but if it isn't managed better than it has been in the past, if it doesn't get tons of Ocean Piners to want to go there often in the future, then I will regret having done so. |
