Section 5: OPA Board Subject: Board Still After Clarke Msg# 849720

Joe: "One might reasonably question whether less than $1 per week increase is significant" The General Manager is suggesting a 5% increase in our assessment over last year. How about 26% over the past five years? All of this while at the same time the State of Maryland Department of Assessments and Taxation has reduced my property values in Ocean Pines by as much as 37.5% and Social Security benefits increase was only 1.7%. I personally think the 5% increase is not only "significant" but not sustainable in this economy. The good news is the Seller did not take our offer for the Pines Shore Golf Course or we could be looking at another $172.00 per member. Marty |

For reference, the above message is a reply to a message where: then the GM has the audacity to request a significant raise in dues this year.....go figure???? One might reasonably question whether less than $1 per week increase is significant. Moreover, whatever the cost to investigate Marty, it is insignificant in terms of a $12 million or so budget. Having said that, while the amount in terms of the overall budget may be insignificant, it is still absolutely wasted money. |
