Section 5: OPA Board Subject: COPE Golf Petition? Msg# 879615

Decisions made in the absence of facts generally make for poor outcomes and regret.
Gosh Nate, you obviously haven't attended many board meetings. Decisions in the absence of facts (or ignoring facts) is SOP. One of the all time classics was when the GM presented a song and dance routine to the board about how much money his proposed Java Bay Café would make. The board bought it. Another classic was the disastrous decision by the board to do the golf drainage project incrementally over a number of years. It began in 2007 and still has nine holes to go. The result was a course more or less constantly under construction, and a cost of work perhaps double that of doing it in a single year..... not to mention many unhappy golfers and plummeting membership. Other courses in the area should be sending Christmas presents every year to the board that decided that one. |

For reference, the above message is a reply to a message where: Got it that the by laws permit it. I am permitted to make a right turn on red but if I don't look what is coming from the left it is reckless. Decisions made in the absence of facts generally make for poor outcomes and regret. I sense that the petition is really motivated about shutting down golf, to reduce the budget to reduce the assessment. It is an emotional issue that must be weighed by an intelligent look at all the facts as best as can be established and this petition has not established all the facts in voting on a weighty matter as this. So I will leave at this...in my opinion the petition is ill advised as written. |
