Section 5: OPA Board Subject: COPE Golf Petition? Msg# 879590

I really hope that before a vote is taken to dismantle the golf course that a plan would be laid out for the process and what the course would look like as "open space." Its just not as easy as saying we are going to close the course, stop losing money, and be left with an area for all to use and enjoy. What would the area look like? Possibly like Pine Shore on Beauchamp RD? All you have to do is look at a course not kept and see that it looks like an eyesore.( and Pine shore wasn't even a regulation course.) What happens to the greens and the bunkers, the sprinkler systems, the drainage. It would be a massive amount of land to maintain for safe use or is most of it just going to be let go and turn into weeds and brush? Also, besides the country club area, there is no access. Before I cast my vote, I think we need to know the true intentions of the movement to close the course and what will the area look like and how will it be used.

For reference, the above message is a reply to a message where: In my opinion decisions made without the full examination of the big picture are reckless. It is too early for a referendum without more fact gathering. Even if we agree, the fact is the by-laws allow association members to petition to referendum, and that is what Steen said he would do if the course is not leased out. I take Steen at his word. I also have little confidence in our board/GM to independently and objectively fully examine the issue. As for the results of any referendum to go to open space, I have no idea how it would turn out. |
