My question is did they really try to figure the whole thing out before doing so?
My thought is the board finally figured out it was incapable of figuring it out, and thus turned to Casper. People should keep in mind that Casper was initially asked to take over golf and all food/beverage operations. The committee that looked into outsourcing recommended Casper take over golf and food/beverage. Casper told the board quite clearly they thought food and beverage was where the most improvement was to be found financially, not golf. Then Bob Thompson begged the board to let him and Joe Reinhart continue to operate food and beverage. The board agreed, at a meeting that was heavily attended by Joe's supporters, ignoring both Casper's advice and the advice of the committee. The board bought a song and dance and the effort subsequently failed; Bob then threw Joe under the bus. |

For reference, the above message is a reply to a message where: George A has said There are plenty of golfers to support the golf course. They just don't belong here because of bad management. They play elsewhere. Nancy, Carol and others hold similar views. But I think theres shrinking interest overall in the game. Its been pointed out in earlier postings that players are aging and interest in the game among younger folks has declined. If all those golfers who left OP are playing elsewhere, why are other local courses also feeling the pinch?? Tom Hi Tom, I thought that my position on golf was clear. I do NOT want to drain our coffers so a FEW folks can play golf. My point is whether those who left, think that any BoD / GM even TRIED to understand why they felt the need to leave a course that they were already paying for... to go to other courses? I wonder how many have left, are still playing, and how many regular players it would take to STOP THE BLEEDING? The decline of golf in the US has been going on for many years, but Ocean Pines has many golfers who are retired, and have the time to play......and DO PLAY....but not on the HOME course. Joe says the BoD threw in the towel and hired Casper....thus giving up. My question is did they really try to figure the whole thing out before doing so? Nancy |
