Nancy You've said My question is did they really try to figure the whole thing out before doing so? . . . threw in the towel and hired Casper
A number of postings here have mention the years of efforts trying to get those golfers back, and to attract new players. Joe has mentioned this, also Norm Katz has mentioned this. And you could go into the forum history of many many discussions of strategies aimed at getting OP golfers back. So much has been tried, it seems we've probably running out the string of options. My point is there probably aren't enough of them, folks likely to return, even assuming a decent percentage would be persuaded come back. Seems the overall trend is the general decline in golfing participation. And I've mentioned local examples as well as the national tally of courses in financial distress. Tom |

For reference, the above message is a reply to a message where: George A has said There are plenty of golfers to support the golf course. They just don't belong here because of bad management. They play elsewhere. Nancy, Carol and others hold similar views. But I think theres shrinking interest overall in the game. Its been pointed out in earlier postings that players are aging and interest in the game among younger folks has declined. If all those golfers who left OP are playing elsewhere, why are other local courses also feeling the pinch?? Tom Hi Tom, I thought that my position on golf was clear. I do NOT want to drain our coffers so a FEW folks can play golf. My point is whether those who left, think that any BoD / GM even TRIED to understand why they felt the need to leave a course that they were already paying for... to go to other courses? I wonder how many have left, are still playing, and how many regular players it would take to STOP THE BLEEDING? The decline of golf in the US has been going on for many years, but Ocean Pines has many golfers who are retired, and have the time to play......and DO PLAY....but not on the HOME course. Joe says the BoD threw in the towel and hired Casper....thus giving up. My question is did they really try to figure the whole thing out before doing so? Nancy |
