My thought is the board finally figured out it was incapable of figuring it out, and thus turned to Casper. People should keep in mind that Casper was initially asked to take over golf and all food/beverage operations. The committee that looked into outsourcing recommended Casper take over golf and food/beverage. Casper told the board quite clearly they thought food and beverage was where the most improvement was to be found financially, not golf.

Then Bob Thompson begged the board to let him and Joe Reinhart continue to operate food and beverage. The board agreed, at a meeting that was heavily attended by Joe's supporters, ignoring both Casper's advice and the advice of the committee. The board bought a song and dance and the effort subsequently failed; Bob then threw Joe under the bus.
