Section 5: OPA Board Subject: Board Reps Meet with LU Msg# 938209

Bob,
So now the narrative is changing to the early morning drinkers who are slowing down your play. I agree that these types of players are annoying. I also read earlier that the marshals were "hiding in the woods", which I have never seen. I agree that running a golf course is not in the wheelhouse of the GM or BOD. Hence BCG and LU. The issue is who can run it effectively. The numbers have improved under LU so far. Let's wait and see. None of this gets to the real issue. The golf course is a great amenity and we should do everything we can to run it at a breakeven. Shutting it down because some people, and not some alleged majority, don't want to pay for it in their assessments isn't a reason to turn it into a park. IMHO. Larry |

For reference, the above message is a reply to a message where: Sorry Larry - Never said it was too hard for me, I still manage the mid 70s from the whites. And I started playing during WW-II. I agree its a great course but the tee placements have little to do with that. I love to see the "beer for breakfast" bunch show up and go to the tips and then look for their lost balls in the trees for a half hour or so on many holes. Men, as a rule, live by the motto that the older they get, the better they were and won't play from the age/skill appropriate tees. There's a reason that courses like Eagles, Rum Point, Lighthouse are so open, it makes play much faster. I just haven't seen any indication that our BoD and GM have any of the skill set needed to turn this around. I'll stick by my statement that golf has seen its glory days. The coming generations have other interest and we seem to think they are like us or the way we think we were. If it were designated as a natural wetlands, there wouldn't be lot of maintenance needed or allowed |
