When I voted for the plan it was my understanding that it was for five years and not to collected in perpetuity, however, I could be wrong and you could be right. Lets just leave it at that.
With all due respect, your comments in some ways illustrate what is wrong with many boards. Board members just do not pay attention. The so-called "Five Year Funding Plan" was the brainchild of Pete Gomsak. He wanted to collect $150 a year to cover the costs of future major projects like the Yacht Club, Country Club, Beach Club, Bridges, etc. The initial idea was to not start by adding $150 to the assessment, rather to start at say $30, increase it by $30 each year for five years and then maintain it at $150. This was more of a policy than something chiseled in stone. It was never chiseled in stone. For full implementation it required subsequent boards to vote at budget time to continue the plan each year. Consider if your view of this ending after 5 years was or is correct. How much would that raise? Year 1 -- $253,000 Year 2 -- $506,400 Rear 3 -- $759,600 Year 4 -- $1,012,800 Year 5 -- $1,266,000 Total collected over 5 years = $3,797,800 So, we see that your interpretation of what you voted on would produce not even enough money to pay for half of the single Yacht Club project, much less multiple others. I'm not saying I agree with Gomsak's idea of collecting in advance, but his plan did indeed contemplate collecting $150 a year indefinitely after rising $30 a year for five years. |

For reference, the above message is a reply to a message where: The plan was called a "Five-Year Plan" but the details of the plan were to increase the amount of reserve contributions incrementally each year for five years and then continue to collect that amount indefinitely. When I voted for the plan it was my understanding that it was for five years and not to collected in perpetuity, however, I could be wrong and you could be right. Lets just leave it at that. Unauthorized? Ridiculous. The assessment is set each year by a board vote. I fully understand the power of four or more board members, however, If one agrees with Marty's premise that the plan was only for five years and I do then the Board should recognize it for what it is and tell the members that the 146 dollars is a carry over on top of the other assesment increase. I am sure you will disagree but that is ok. I will just go back to my cooking and baking which is IMO a lot more fun |
