So, this talk of some intent to collect for only five years is nonsense . . .
Joe For me it boils down to a slight of hand. Put in a cushion, a layer of collecting $$ from the suckers (woops I slipped) i.e. the members they are unlikely to remember in the future, as a special cushion. Then later give it the soft pedal, whisper, or non-mentioned treatment in the future. Thus, few would be the wiser. Of course, you Joe are aware, as is Marty, of its purpose as a cushion. But the "average joe" is unaware. I'd say most of the average guys are being dupped. Even our former board guy John wasn't clearly remembering your recited details These are reasons why I have no doubts when Marty calls it a "slush fund", and advocates its demise (or phase out). For reference, the above message is a reply to a message where: "Five yrs" should mean what it says. Indeed, and it did in regard to the Gomsak OPA funding plan. Start at a $30 assessment increase, increase again for four more years to reach $150 a year over a full five years and then maintain collecting the $150 so long as boards deemed necessary. However, as I said to John and many times in one form or another to Marty, this "plan" had to be voted on each and every year by a board. However, NEVER was there a single word said that all collections under the five year plan would stop after five years. Pure nonsense. The plan was a vote to establish a policy going forward. Whether or not the policy was followed was and is up to each board each year at budget time. All that is happening now, perhaps six years or so after the fact, is people grabbing the "five-year" part of the plan description and saying this means the collection of money would stop after five years. Not so. The "five-year" part meant the amount collected each year would increase for five years only and then remain constant. So, this talk of some intent to collect for only five years is nonsense, given the originally specified intent to collect sufficient funds to pay for a new YC, new Beach Club, new Country Club, etc. Collecting for only five years would have collected only about one half the cost of the YC alone. I was there at those original meetings and making the videos at the time. I was awake. Finally, all this discussion of what the plan was to be or not to be is not the question. The board votes each year on the budget and assessment. The assessment is what the board decides, regardless of any "plan" or lack of any plan. This plan discussed many years ago is simply a political tool to try and justify a part of the assessment. |
