you are right that Marty wanted to rehab and that there were a couple of proposals for a new YC but they did not go anywhere. The colossus as u call it(I prefer the Taj Mahal) was not proposed until the GM was on board for a year or more. Whether or not that was his brain child I do not know. I suspect it was a collaboration of a number of Board members and the GM, however, I can can tell u it was never on the table when I was on the Board.

For reference, the above message is a reply to a message where: As I remember it, there were three "concepts". A rehab of the existing building (championed primarily by Marty Clarke to much ridicule), a moderately expanded YC and the colossus we now have. I admit to being an outside observer but I don't remember the GM ever saying we needed something smaller than what was finally proposed. On the contrary, I think that he was the prime mover which is why he continually buried or downplayed the bad news as it arose. |
