There is enough ammunition in the details of OPA's budget and financial management data to show the absolute farce the budget management process is in OPA. The problem is making these issues known to association members in time to have the proposed budget significantly changed. One way to do this is to have a significant number of people band together, agree on critical budget items to be addressed then present these items to the BoD with a large number of supporters in attendance. If the group is organized enough it could conduct fact-based letters to the editors campaign and/or paid ads to publicize the issues and name the directors who are for or against the critical issues. This is a lot to do in a short time. One concern I have is how quickly the community budget review meeting is upon us. To my recollection, this meeting was normally conducted in mid-February. Another concern I have is that the draft budget details are NOT posted on the OPA website. Thus, attendees at the community review meeting will only have available edited summary data prepared by OPA management for the sake of selling the budget. |

For reference, the above message is a reply to a message where: All, I have yet to read through all the comments associated with the "food truck", however, I cannot fathom this concept and find the idea ABSURD and OBSCENE! In my opinion thes types of actions display a complete disdain for any kind of fiduciary responsibility and is borderline malfeasance in conjunction with responsibilities of the board. There are those of us that can no longer sit on the sidelines and watch this debacle unfold. I would like to find folks in OPA who would be willing to discuss this issue with the intent of getting this item removed from the budget, whether it be by direct intervention with the board or a petition from the membership. I suspect I will get the normal amount ofpushback and some level of apathy, but I can no longer in good conscience let this type of activity continue. As the saying goes -- it's easy to spend other people's money --- and in this case they are spending my money and trust IWeill have something to say about that. Doug Parks |
