Section 5: OPA Board Subject: Money is No Object Msg# 945154

In Joe's constant reminders to follow the money BUT never believe the BOD, & their advisors, could possibly financially benefit from their decision,
I would ask that you not start yet again on these vague and unsubstantiated accusations of illegality with regard to OPA contracts unless you have some proof. I'll not remind you again. As for your question about the legality of the closed sessions, according to a friend at the MD States Attorney, it is a very gray area it is a HIGHLY unethical practice. I have no idea as to your source, but suggest that both you and your source read the Maryland Homeowner Association Act. Closed sessions are perfectly legal when certain conditions are met. Can 100 people out of 8,000 truly lobby enough for the OPA BOD to acquiesce to the expense of $75,000 per? YES! However, at this point the board has not done what you say they have done. The board has, of now, not approved a penny for the project. A year ago it did include $250,000 in the budget for the project. Any actual construction project would need formal board approval. |

For reference, the above message is a reply to a message where: This is why, when someone like Tom Terry, says we should agree to disagree, I decline. The pickleball courts were a farce to begin with, & at 3x the price WITH ONLY ONE BID, they are a waste. I am irritated so many complaining this message board but are unwilling to practice what they preach. In Joe's constant reminders to follow the money BUT never believe the BOD, & their advisors, could possibly financially benefit from their decision, I ask some simple questions: $750,000 (before all the overruns, delays & waffling on final decision = higher cost) for 100 people, is that a good cost benefit analysis? Can 100 people out of 8,000 truly lobby enough for the OPA BOD to acquiesce to the expense of $75,000 per? Who really benefits from such an expense? Could possibly Tom Terry be possibly using his sway in the OPA to benefit someone who will be strongly supporting his run for the Board of ED? As for your question about the legality of the closed sessions, according to a friend at the MD States Attorney, it is a very gray area it is a HIGHLY unethical practice. Dont even get me started on the Food Truck, another daring innovative thought from the GM that brought you the booming success of Java Cafe & Hitler's Bunker (the yacht club). advisors could possibly be financially |
