I commented early on in this thread to Mr. Reynolds, if Mr. Stevens, Collins and Herrick had the political skills of Mr. Terry, they would have made a motion after Mr. Cordwell's comments to end the original Manklin Creek Master Plan as we currently know it.
Ridiculous. The master plan is Terry and Thompson's baby. They have not gone to all this effort, then vote to spend $150,000 as phase one of the master plan, and then you think they will go for dumping the master plan. Terry even said during the meeting that one of the fundamental purposes of his motion was to prepare the site so some future board could then proceed with later phases of the master plan. Anyone who thinks Terry would have voted to dump the master plan at that last meetings is living in a fantasy world. Why vote to spend $150,000 on a phase one of the plan and then immediately vote to dump the master plan. Ridiculous is too mild a word. The playground maintenance issue is a direct reflection on the Ocean Pines Facilities Manager and Director of Parks and Recreation. That is the level where action should have taken place regarding the maintenance of any of our playgrounds. More nonsense from one who does not know how OPA operates internally. The Public Works Department is not going to do what you suggest without approval of Bob Thompson. To blame them is a disservice to those employees. No one is going to do anything without GM approval for fear of their jobs. Right after Jerry Aveta was hired he made the mistake of making a point during a public meeting. Off to the Gulags. Thompson was well aware of the needed playground maintenance over a year ago. He discussed it at board meetings. He did not want to do maintenance because the goal was not to maintain, rather the move the playground to make way for pickleball courts. If there is a failure to properly maintain, that failure lies with Thompson and the board... surely not with Jerry Aveta or other employees. |

For reference, the above message is a reply to a message where: It was a missed opportunity as I believe you pointed out not to box Director Notsowell into a corner when he said he was "so done with pickleball." ...someone should have been sharp enough seek an understanding of what that meant. He repeated himself at least 5 or 6 times. Nate, I commented early on in this thread to Mr. Reynolds, if Mr. Stevens, Collins and Herrick had the political skills of Mr. Terry, they would have made a motion after Mr. Cordwell's comments to end the original Manklin Creek Master Plan as we currently know it. Unfortunately, in my view, Collins and Stevens spend more time politically posturing at board meetings than they do actually listening and accomplishing business for the betterment of our community. By the way if the playground is in disrepair after only 10 years that is again a very poor reflection on maintenance.... The playground maintenance issue is a direct reflection on the Ocean Pines Facilities Manager and Director of Parks and Recreation. That is the level where action should have taken place regarding the maintenance of any of our playgrounds. |
