I mean we get a 3% kick back on mediacom.
I believe the contract allows for up to 5% but OPA has only ever collected 2.5%. Furthermore, I couldn't believe we got credit for over 7k voters and matched or doubled OC and Berlin. The whole second home vs voting seemed like the numbers didn't jive to me but whatever-strong argument. [I always wished that if you pay taxes you should get a vote regardless of where you live- my military background and sending in absentee ballots]. Not sure what you mean, but the count of registered voters in Ocean Pines has nothing to do with property owners who vote in OPA board elections or with the number of property owners. When it comes to normal elections only registered voters can vote and to be a registered voter Ocean Pines must be your full time residence -- whether an owner or a renter. Also of note, each property in OPA has one vote. In a regular election the people vote, not properties. Thus one property could have two or more registered voters. |

For reference, the above message is a reply to a message where: Awesome effort Joe!!!! Another example of the board acting on behalf of "group think" rather than representing what is best for the community. I remember that whole deal, especially that our board wasn't getting a kick back from something happening in our backyard. I mean we get a 3% kick back on mediacom. Remember the discussions of making 589 wider and that we were going to have a mini Las Vegas down there? We all felt if we were going to be making our lifestyles more difficult or complicated at least we could get compensated [at least proportionally like others in the area]. There were many in the community that voiced they were going to sell then also. Again, calmer minds prevailed and it was really a big non-issue. What are we going to do when you and others with this institutional knowledge move on? Let me know how I can help with your backup plan. R/ Bill |
