Thought I would add my voice in the 1st vehicle dialogue...my dad somehow found a 1948 dodge pickup. We bought it for $50. I used to drive it to high school, 5 miles each way (uphill). Used it to haul my friends around in the fields and woods as we cut green fir boughs to decorate the large screen back drops on the stage in the town hall. The place where graduations, proms, donkey basketball and annual town meetings occurred in the traditional New England fashion.
It had those big teardrop headlights mounted on the fenders. The fenders were great to ride on sitting behind the headlamps except I when hit the brakes to hard. My grandfather came up from Massachusetts each summer to live with us on the farm. He had lost an eye in an industrial accident and would sometimes take out his glass eye. He drove a Studebaker, some version of a hawk, black and red, beautiful car and fast. One time we were on a straight stretch of road. He said he needed to burn out the carbon so we accelerated and ended up in the ditch. Fortunately, no injury or damage to the car. My Dad came with his truck and pulled us out of the ditch and we were on our way to get hair cuts. Great memories, life shaping experiences, rich with family times. votestevetuttle.com |
