I certainly can't top any of the guy's car stories but my first car, yes, girls had them too, was a cherry red 1964 Chevrolet Impala two-door car. My parents gave it to me for high school graduation so I would have transportation to drive to school to become a radiogical technician. I loved that car. I would turn on the radio and drive it to school each day. This car gave me the freedoom to go anywhere I wanted to before going home. I would hang out with friends and go shopping. Sometimes I would run an errand for my mother. On the weekends, if I didn't have a date, I would pick up friends and we would go to Bob's Big Boy for hamburgers and strawberry pie. Hangout and meet boys! If none of our high school friends showed up we would drive to the University of Alabama campus and find a party. Best thing about my car was I didn't have to do anything except drive it and fill it up. My father took care of all the maintenance and my brother washed my car each week when he washed his GTO. I guess girls view cars alittle differently from boys! | ||||||

For reference, the above message is a reply to a message where: Thought I would add my voice in the 1st vehicle dialogue...my dad somehow found a 1948 dodge pickup. We bought it for $50. I used to drive it to high school, 5 miles each way (uphill). Used it to haul my friends around in the fields and woods as we cut green fir boughs to decorate the large screen back drops on the stage in the town hall. The place where graduations, proms, donkey basketball and annual town meetings occurred in the traditional New England fashion. It had those big teardrop headlights mounted on the fenders. The fenders were great to ride on sitting behind the headlamps except I when hit the brakes to hard. My grandfather came up from Massachusetts each summer to live with us on the farm. He had lost an eye in an industrial accident and would sometimes take out his glass eye. He drove a Studebaker, some version of a hawk, black and red, beautiful car and fast. One time we were on a straight stretch of road. He said he needed to burn out the carbon so we accelerated and ended up in the ditch. Fortunately, no injury or damage to the car. My Dad came with his truck and pulled us out of the ditch and we were on our way to get hair cuts. Great memories, life shaping experiences, rich with family times. votestevetuttle.com |
