Did you always run it with white/blackwalls or were those snow tires on the back?
Which brings me to another car story. I was driving my daughter up to Connecticut College in New London and it was a day much like the ones we've had for the last week or so. I had borrowed a station wagon from a neighbor and paid him for the use of it for the roundtrip. On the way there, the back end was really squirrelly as I came around curves on the CT Tpke, it seemed to want to continue around when I wanted to straighten out. I figured that after I unloaded, it would be better on the way back. It was much worse. When I got home, after delivering a load of thanks to the heavens for a safe arrival, I delivered the car back to my neighbor and warned him to get it checked. He was insulted and closed the door in my face. He loved that station wagon. A couple of days later, he drove by and pulled up to the curb (he wasn't big on exercise). "I just had it checked. The guy said I was running radial snow tires on the back and regular tires on the front and that might have been the problem." Ya Think !!! |

For reference, the above message is a reply to a message where: Loved my 56 Chevy I can't say it was "exactly" mine but when Andrea began her teaching career in 1967 she needed a car to travel to Caesar Rodney in Delaware from Wilkes Barre, Pa. I found her a 1957 Chevy in great condition and, even though it was a 4 door, it still looked sharp. Unfortunately the engine had a few hiccups and more than once I would have to rescue her, usually somewhere on the PA. Turnpike. Then some guy came around a corner when we were stopped at an intersection and hit her. Completely his fault but the insurance company "totaled" her car and what she received for the car was much less than what it was worth. Image below from Jack Barnes - Image Title: 1957 Chevy |
