Further clarification of my comment about Parks, based on the timeline and what he is quoted as saying in a local paper:
My commentary on the S&R Club beach pollution was sent out on July 5. Parks receives the forum newsletters, so do a number of people in OPA including other board members, some staff, and the GM. On July 8 OPA sent out a news release claiming my commentary was overblown. That release was subsequently retracted and another sent out on the same day. The July 9 edition of a local driveway paper contained an article with the title of "Pines water quality concerns not alarming." This article contained the quote from Parks made on July 7. Here is the actual text from the newspaper: "Speaking on Tuesday, Parks said his grandchildren had just made use of the Swim & Racquet Club beach the day before. 'I told them don't drink any of the water,' he said. 'Keep your mouth shut.'" So, one day after my commentary noting the Swim Guide indicated the water at the beach was unsafe for swimming, it appears Parks allowed his grandchildren to swim in that polluted water with an admonition not to drink the water. If I had to guess, I suspect the impetus for the original OPA press release claiming my commentary and concerns were "overblown" may have been a result of instructions originating with Parks. Below is the status of the beach at the time Parks allowed his grandchildren to swim there: |

For reference, the above message is a reply to a message where: Joe thanks for clarifying your response, " OPA president Doug Parks said his grandchildren were just swimming there. He says he told them not to drink any of the water." I could not tell if the absurdity applied to Doug, the warning to not drink the water or both. As I said the AAP, CDC, me and other experts would agree with Doug Parks a person should not drink the water regardless of where they are are swimming. My favorite definition of communication: what everybody thinks took place. |
