“Downsizing pipes creates flooding upflow from those pipes” downsizing from the original scope of work, they will be increased from 15 inches to 18 inches for the new scope.
Then OPA is increasing the flow of water under Beauchamp Road. Where will that water go? I have a great deal of faith in the weir structure and pond improvements we are adding that it is going to help us greatly with the flooding. Great faith in adding 50,000 gallons of storage to solve the problem? I also have great faith in the team that has worked the last 18 months on this project. Including those who said or assumed we would be able to dump the water in a new pond on the old golf course? Sure, most of those folks worked hard at their jobs, as they should. But the project was flawed from the start because it was based on having an outfall for getting the water out of OP. In my view it is foolish to jump into a $800,000 project without knowing what will happen to the water. 50,000 gallons will not cut it. Ultimately we need some place or some way to direct the flood flows out to the bay. Is the board looking into that at all? I have heard the developer wanted $500,000. If that offer is still available (I suspect not) OPA should take it. It would be worth an additional $500,000 to do the project properly and get the water out of OP. I am not as close to or invested as much in the projct as you are. I just am not convinced this $800,000 or so expense will do very much. Truth be told, Bob Thompson was correct. OPA shold have bought that property when it had the chance. At the time I suggested an offer of $1.8 million or so based on a referendum approval. I think the purchase could have been sold to the membership. The board refused to seek approval via referendum. Big mistake. Costly mistake. |

For reference, the above message is a reply to a message where: “Downsizing pipes creates flooding upflow from those pipes” downsizing from the original scope of work, they will be increased from 15 inches to 18 inches for the new scope. I corrected my comment to make sure it says from original scope. I have a great deal of faith in the weir structure and pond improvements we are adding that it is going to help us greatly with the flooding. I also have great faith in the team that has worked the last 18 months on this project. |
