Section 5: OPA Board Subject: Board to Dump Janasek? Msg# 1104422

Beats me. I suspect Viola wants to reinforce the idea of who really is in charge of Ocean Pines.
Who is in charge? The elected officials should be in charge, Viola is an appointee. BTW, I have seen Viola and Perrone glued to each others side several times at the (golf) clubhouse. Do not read anything into that statement, I am not implying anything, I am just stating fact. (But as a side note, it concerns me that board members/gm may be sticking there nose into Matt Ortt business . . . who came up with the clubhouse food/drink discount provided to golfers, a discount that is just another stealth subsidy to what has been a perpetual money pit, a discount that excludes the property owners who paid millions for the new golf clubhouse. Did the gm and/or the several board members - - who are golfers and frequent the clubhouse - - interfere with Ortt management by suggesting/requesting/insisting that a discount be provided?) Getting back to Janasek, as a former board candidate I have spoken to him informally many times re OPA matters, he has never made any disparaging/unethical remarks to me re Viola. Again, just saying, not making any kind of determination. It is hard to imagine that anything Janasek did could not be addressed by applying a "lesser remedy" than dismissal. But if he is in fact dismissed by a board that succumbs to a 'it's either him or me' threat, an elected official being removed because of such an ultimatum would be a bad, bad thing for the community. Every board member must be able to make independent decisions without being fearful of the wrath of any gm. Steve Lind |

For reference, the above message is a reply to a message where: Question - Is the board's only action an up and down vote on removal or do they have other choices such as reprimand? As I wrote - The applicable board resolution B-08, 4 stipulates that the board may consider "remedies including but not limited to removal from the Board for cause. Lesser remedies may be considered for violation of Ethical Standards." More than golf? I suspect so. However, hanging out at the golf course during working hours is a serious complaint. There is also the sources info that Viola says either Janasek goes or Viola goes. Beats me. I suspect Viola wants to reinforce the idea of who really is in charge of Ocean Pines. |
