Section 5: OPA Board Subject: Janasek Pleads Guilty, Apologizes Msg# 1104493

What we saw at the board meeting was carefully choreographed prior to the meeting. Obviously there was a deal struck prior to the meeting whereby Janasek would remain on the board, and he would essentially take a guilty plea to avoid removal.
This benefited Janasek and also the board. It benefited the board because it avoided a possible public airing of whatever complaints Janasek might have about Viola. We do not know if any of Janasek's apparent complaints about Viola are valid or not. That was not the issue before the board. If Janasek had any valid complaints about the GM those complaints should have been brought before the board in private session, not blurted out in public places like the Yacht Club and golf club with frequency and over many months. Given what we now know, especially hearing Janasek had previously been warned by Parks, that Viola had every right to bring charges against Janasek. As I mentioned previously, given the now known totality of the charges, the board would have been totally justified in removing Janasek. Janasek apologized only because he had to. It was apologize or be removed. Given what we now know, he should have been removed. |
