Yup US is pretty big in Nuclear power capacity, but our percentage is only about 20% of total power needs. Per the 2017 stats, France was second and China was 3rd in Nuclear power followed by Russia and South Korea
Yet there's numerous nuclear plants scheduled for retirement in the US, and only two new units at a single plant still being built in the US. Units may come on line this year & next year. In Germany there's also a nuclear plant retirement, pinching their power supply. Sorry to be losing all that emission-free nuclear power capacity. Iceland gets 100% from environmentally friendly sources-- geothermal & hydro --from their geographic resources. No emissions. But there's hardly any globally remaining untapped -- similar sources to be developed. Experiments for deeper drilling of geothermal sources are ongoing. |

For reference, the above message is a reply to a message where: "For example France produces about 70% nuclear energy," Thanks Tom..... did you know that USA is the world's largest producer of nuclear power? France is the largest % user, about 70% of country's electricity needs is derived from the nuclear energy. |
