Coal gasification in the US has been tough to achieve at the level needed for commercial power plants. Several US power companies dropped those efforts by 2012-- American Electric power, NRG Energy, Xcel Energy, etc. More recently Southern Co shut down its efforts to adopt that coal gasification at two power plants -- [Even with some assistance of govt grants towards that technology.] Hasn't been viable here for commercial power plants, yet. Southern Company is a utility I've been watching. They may make history this yr or next, with the first new nuclear power plant unit coming on line in the US this century. | ||||||
