As the HR guy why were you not fully aware of the Maryland “at will” doctrine? If you were, why did you sue OPA? You were the guy writing the employee manual.
Did the formal notification of your firing come from the GM or the board? While the GM hires and fires employees, ultimately the board is in charge because the GM works for the board. |

For reference, the above message is a reply to a message where: The board needs to stay out of employee matters that should be addressed by the GM. If for some reason the board had concerns about a certain employee that should be addressed by the GM with a report back to the Board. The sad thing on my case is I thought I had a good relationship with 4 of the 7 members at the time. Two had just been elected to the Board for 4 month, one of which I had absolutely no interaction. In my case it appears that what the board did was wrong, but ultimately legal given the broad employment at will doctrine of Maryland law. |
