I am not sure the attorney was charged with clearing or not clearing anyone. I think he was asked to talk to people who presumably witnessed Perrone’s interaction with Colby and report what he was told back to the board. Upon review of that report, it was the board via a 6-0-1 vote who cleared Perrone of the charges. Not a single board member voted that Perrone was guilty of the charges. 

Emotions aside, those are the facts to the best of my knowledge. My really serious problem with the entire process is the board never gave Colby a chance to address the board directly. On the other hand the accused never had the chance to confront his accuser. 

In short, this is a messed up situation.
