The work is NOT complete. A major past problem is when we get inches within hours, not days. This last rainfall was a soaking one, not high runoff. | ||||||

For reference, the above message is a reply to a message where: Pond capacity increase is 50,000 cubic feet as I recall - water from a 2-inch rainfall on one acre. How many watershed acres are feeding Bainbridge Pond? Lots more than one. Will delay flooding but not by much. Yes those same figures were in earlier messages, as early as 9/21/20. Quoting from that message: "The project does include construction to increase the holding capacity of Bainbridge Pond by about 50,000 cubic feet. While perhaps better than nothing, 50,000 cubic feet of water represents about two inches of rainfall on only one acre. The increased storage will delay flooding, but only for a short time during the kind of rainfalls that cause flooding." Other messages have used wordings like building a "berm." So this recent rainy weather weekend of over 2 inches may be an interesting test of those estimates -- assuming the new berm is now in place. Clear weather is forecast until next Friday's rain forecast. Yet they're not forecasting a major rainfall. Maybe folks who live in that Bainbridge Park vicinity can report how their areas made out after this weekend's rains. There were 2.62 inches for the 3 day total in OP per the WRDE TV report 6 PM today. Ocean City had 2.88 inches. |
