Marty.. and when we read history it is important to get all the facts… from various articles I have read (over the years) the death toll may actually have been in the thousands with many bodies just dumped in the river. It started when a black young man was accused of molesting a young lady in an elevator (she later recanted and said it never happened)… a crowd of whites went to the jail in an attempt to lynch him and then a group of black men went down to try and protect him. As to who fired the shot.. appears that has never been positively ascertained but most now know of the travesty that followed. | ||||||

For reference, the above message is a reply to a message where: Neil: We do need to read all history, the good and the bad, but it needs to be factual in order t fairly judge. You mention the Tulsa riots which are the new lesson of today. According to everything I have been able to read dating back to the incident less then 90 people perished of which over a third were white. The first shot that actually triggered the riots was fired by a black citizen. History is important. Marty |
