For reference, the above message is a reply to a message where: Parks wrote: "If, during the interview process, a committee chair determines that the applicant would not be a good fit for the committee, it is well withing their authority to decline the application and not present it to the board for consideration." I am not sure he is correct. True, a committee chair does not have to present an application to the board for a vote. However, the bylaws prevail here in that they say the sole authority to appoint committee members lies with the board president and the consent of the board. Committee chairs do not have the authority to prevent someone from being on a committee. The board president can appoint any qualified candidate and, with board consent, that person is on the committee, regardless of what the committee chair wants. |
