You are correct that I approved the application as Board Liaison for SPAC. I chose not to vote.
The bylaws say nothing about any board liaison approving or disapproving any committee member application. Nothing at all. Resolution C-01 Committee General Policy does not mention the board liaison approving or not approving any committee member application. The resolution does say, as do the bylaws, that committee members shall be appointed by the President with the consent of the Board and shall serve at the pleasure of the Board. Qualifications for committee membership are only eligibility to vote. The bylaws state: "All members serve at the pleasure of the Board and may be removed by the Board, with or without cause, at any time." The bylaws also state: "Section 10.02. Appointments. Chairpersons and members shall be members of the Association eligible to vote and shall be appointed or reappointed by the President, with the consent of the Board of Directors. No one employed by the Association shall be eligible to serve as a voting member of a committee or ad hoc advisory body. Each chairperson shall recommend persons to serve and shall report to the President the non-participation of appointed members." No mention any place of committee liaison. |

For reference, the above message is a reply to a message where: You are correct that I approved the application as Board Liaison for SPAC. I chose not to vote. Dr. Horn made the committee assignments. She is aware of my love of data/research and my enthusiastic support of the Community Survey and thought I would be a good fit. During Wednesday’s Board meeting I used the Community Survey data in my discussions regarding the AARP and electronic voting. It is a very helpful tool. I think I am a good fit on the Committee and have only received very positive feedback regarding my role. I have no intention (nor have I ever) of resigning. Although the role of Liaison on a committee is limited in scope, I enjoy it. I hope there is a large turnout for the SPAC Town Hall on Wednesday, March 2 at 6pm. |
